Special requirements for camera installation in elevators

Release time:2026-07-28 00:00 Views:210 author:Xinlaida Security Technology Department source:technical knowledge
The elevator shaft has a special environment: small space, strong electrical interference, and restrictions on accompanying cables. Explain the key points of equipment selection, power and network access, and screen debugging.

Environmental characteristics and difficulties

  • The car space is small (commonly 1.6m × 1.4m), and a super wide angle is required to fully cover it.
  • Traveling cable resources are tight, and there are usually no extra network cables available.
  • There is strong electromagnetic interference caused by frequency converters and traction machines.
  • The car roof construction space is limited and requires the cooperation of the elevator maintenance unit.

Equipment selection

  • Focal length: Prioritize 2.8mm (or even 1.4~2.8mm super wide angle) to ensure coverage of the entire car and doorway.
  • Form: Use a special elevator camera (flying saucer type/dome type), which is small in size, hidden in appearance, and not easy to be blocked.
  • Resolution: 2 million is enough. Too high resolution is of little significance in a small space but increases bandwidth.
  • Protection: It has a certain anti-interference design, and the metal shell is better.

Getting electricity and internet

PlanPracticeApplicable
Traveling cable + network cableUse the spare core in the traveling cable or thread a network cableWhen installing a new elevator or having a spare cable
Power line carrierTransmitting network signals through elevator lighting power linesWhen no network cable is available
Wireless bridgeEstablish a wireless link between the car roof and the top/bottom of the hoistwayThe number of floors is not high and the hoistway is less blocked
Local storage + wireless exportCamera local SD card recording, regular exportSecurity in extreme situations

Key points of construction and commissioning

  1. It must be coordinated by qualified elevator maintenance personnel, and it is strictly prohibited to enter the shaft without permission.
  2. Priority is given to taking power from the car lighting circuit. Pay attention to the voltage level (usually AC 220V or DC 24V), and an adapted power supply is required.
  3. Cables should be fixed securely and leave enough margin to avoid long-term bending and breakage.
  4. The camera should be installed as far as possible diagonally above the car door, looking down diagonally, taking into account both face and floor display.
  5. During debugging, check the screen with people in the car to confirm that there are no dead spots or serious distortions.

Common faults

  • Scrolling horizontal stripes on the screen: typical electromagnetic interference, check the grounding and whether it is laid in the same pipe as strong electricity.
  • The screen is interrupted during operation: the core of the accompanying cable is broken at the bend, and the cable needs to be checked.
  • Can't see clearly at night: The car is not well lit, so choose a low-illumination model or a special model with fill light.
