What is an IPC network camera? What is the difference from analog cameras
From imaging, transmission, power supply, cabling to back-end storage, the system compares the differences between IPC network cameras and analog cameras to help you make the right choice in a new construction or renovation project.
Basic concepts
IPC (IP Camera) is a network camera. The image is collected, encoded and compressed inside the camera, and is output as a digital signal through the network; the analog camera outputs an unencoded analog video signal (CVBS), which requires a back-end DVR for encoding. AHD / TVI / CVI belongs to "Analog HD" still uses coaxial transmission, but the resolution is increased to 720P / 1080P.

Suggestions for selection
- New Project: Prioritize IPC. Intelligent analysis, remote access, and later expansion are all more friendly.
- Utilization and transformation: If the original coaxial lines are in good condition and the budget is limited, you can use AHD for transition first, but pay attention to the attenuation caused by coaxial aging.
- Ultra-long distance: For scenarios exceeding 100 meters, fiber optic transceiver + IPC can be considered, or coaxial analog HD can be used.
- Special environments such as elevators: Anti-interference design is required, so special elevator cameras are preferred.
Common misunderstandings
Myth 1: "IPC must be clearer than simulation." The clarity depends on the resolution, lens, bit rate and installation and debugging. The look and feel of low bit rate IPC may not be better than Well tuned analog HD. Myth 2: "IPC cabling must be more expensive." Powered by PoE, power cords are eliminated and the overall cost is often lower.
