Common causes and troubleshooting of blurry camera images

According to the four-layer sequence of "lens-parameter-environment-equipment", a quick location and processing method for image blur problems is given.

Check in order

1. Lens and physical factors (most common)

  • Dirty lens: dust, fingerprints, rain marks. Use special lens tissue to clean, do not use clothing or rough paper towels.
  • Moisture/condensation on the shield: Seal failure or temperature difference condensation. Check the sealing ring and add desiccant or replace the shield if necessary.
  • The lens is out of focus: The zoom machine or the lens is not focused after installation. Readjust the back focus/front focus.
  • Improper focal length selection: The target is too far and the focal length is too short. The essence is insufficient pixels. It is not "blurred" but "clearly visible". The focal length needs to be changed.
  • Infrared switching stuck: Insufficient ICR switching will cause the color cast and blur of the picture during the day. You can manually switch to test.

2. Parameter factors

  • The bitrate is too low: Mosaics are serious in complex images. Increase the bitrate or use VBR instead.
  • Shutter speed is too slow: Motion picture smear, set the lower limit of the shutter (such as 1/50s).
  • Too strong noise reduction: Too high 3D noise reduction will smear details, so reduce it appropriately.
  • Sharpness setting: If the sharpness is too low, it will appear blurry; if it is too high, white edges will appear.

3. Environmental factors

  • Backlighting causes overall darkness and looks "unclear". It is necessary to turn on the wide dynamic range or adjust the point.
  • Rain, fog, and dust are normal phenomena.
  • The picture itself under infrared at night has less details and is subject to physical limitations.

4. Equipment factors

  • Lens or sensor failure (water, moisture, aging).
  • Insufficient power supply causes abnormal image processing.
  • There is a problem with the firmware version, which may be improved after upgrading.

Quick Judgment Table

PhenomenaThe most likely cause
The whole body is white and foggyThe lens is dirty or the shield has moisture in it
Near objects are clear and distant objects are blurryThe focal length is too short and the target pixels are insufficient
Smear of moving objectsThe shutter speed is too slow or the noise reduction is too strong
Color during the day and black and white at night are blurryThe lens is out of focus or damaged
There are mosaic blocksInsufficient code rate or network packet loss
