Troubleshooting steps for NVR not finding the camera
The standardized troubleshooting process for cameras that cannot be discovered by NVR during new installation or renovation covers the complete link from the physical layer to the protocol layer.
Standard troubleshooting process
1. Physics and power supply
- Whether the camera is powered on (whether the indicator light is on and whether the infrared night vision light is on).
- Whether the PoE power supply is normal (switch port indicator light, terminal voltage).
- 网线是否通(用测线仪测,或把摄像机接到交换机旁用短线测试)。
- Whether the camera has completed startup (it takes 1 to 2 minutes for some devices to start).
2. Network connectivity
- Set the computer to the same network segment as the camera and ping the camera IP directly.
- Ping fails: Check IP configuration, subnet mask, gateway, and VLAN.
- Can ping but cannot find the NVR: mostly due to protocol or account issues.
- Check whether there is an IP conflict (two devices with the same IP will cause intermittent connectivity).
3. IP segment matching
NVR searches are usually only performed in the same network segment as its LAN port. If the cameras are on different network segments:
- Change the camera to the same network segment, or
- Add the search/access configuration of the corresponding network segment on the NVR, or
- Configure Layer 3 routing and gateway, and use the "manually add IP" method to access.
4. Agreement and Account
- Whether ONVIF is enabled (some devices are turned off by default and need to be turned on on the web).
- Whether to use a private protocol to connect to the same brand of equipment (usually the best compatibility).
- Whether the username/password filled in when adding is correct (note that new devices need to be activated and set a password first).
- Whether the firewall blocks the relevant ports (80 / 554 / 8000 / 37777, etc.).
5. Device and version
- The camera firmware version is too old and there are compatibility issues → Upgrade the firmware.
- The NVR firmware version is too old and does not support new models → Upgrade the NVR or adjust the front-end encoding.
- The number of access channels has reached the upper limit (License is full).
- The access bandwidth is full. Although it can be added, the flow cannot be obtained normally.
