With the popularity of 8-megapixel 4K cameras, how to simultaneously upgrade bandwidth and storage
4K cameras bring clearer detail restoration and also place higher requirements on network bandwidth, storage capacity and decoding performance, requiring overall planning rather than single-point replacement.
The actual value of improved clarity
Upgrading from 2 million pixels to 8 million pixels, the number of face pixels that can be recognized in a single frame is increased by approximately 4 times. It can significantly increase the value of evidence collection at key points such as entrances and exits, checkout counters, and halls.
Three things that need to be evaluated simultaneously
- Storage: Estimate single-channel capacity based on "bit rate × 3600 × 24 × days ÷ 8". It is recommended to use H.265+ encoding for 4K points. Can save about 40%–50% space compared to H.264.
- Bandwidth: Gigabit is recommended for the backbone, and the aggregation and access layers will be calculated based on the actual bit rate to avoid congestion during peak periods.
- Decoding: The monitoring center client and decoding equipment must support 4K hard decoding, otherwise the multi-channel preview will freeze.
Proposal for phased renovation
It is not recommended to replace the entire amount at one time. You can follow the "key point priority" principle: Entrances, cashiers, and lobbies are first exposed to 4K, and general passages are reserved for 2 million/4 million, taking into account both effect and cost.
